William H. Dunbar, V, M.D.

Dr. Dunbar joined the Ryu Hurvitz Orthopedic Clinic in 2010. He completed is orthopedic training at the University of Wisconsin, Madison with special interests in Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Traumatology. He went on to pursue these interests with fellowship training in Sports Medicine in Sydney, Australia at the renowned North Sydney Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Centre under the direction of Dr. Mervyn J. Cross, OAM. He followed this with an orthopedic trauma fellowship in Auckland, New Zealand. Raised in Santa Barbara he has fulfilled a lifelong desire to return and practice orthopedics caring for patients in his hometown.

He currently is one of few trauma fellowship trained orthopedic surgeons in the Santa Barbara area, has published in orthopedic scientific journals, and is dedicated to continued education and advancement of orthopedic knowledge.

While he enjoys caring for patients with all manner of orthopedic problems, he has joined with Dr. Ryu and Dr. Hurvitz in their passion for caring for the young athletes of Santa Barbara as a team doctor for U.C.S.B, Westmont college, Santa Barbara, Bishop Diego, and Cate High Schools. He can often be found volunteering his time on the sidelines of their games.

He has trained in the challenging emerging field of hip arthroscopy to diagnose and treat a complex variety of disorders such as labral tears of the hip and femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) in hopes of keeping our increasingly athletic community healthy and active. This exciting new field has the potential not only to get these young athletes back in the game, but to stave off and avoid the insidious development of arthritis for these patients in the long term.

Dr. Dunbar is committed to his patients, whether through his care of patients in need of treatment for acute trauma or through a philosophy of prophylactic medicine that aims to help patients stay healthy and avoid injury altogether
